IBM CATE Description:
The CATE (Certified Advanced Technical Expert) certification from IBM certification is a standard level certification. This certification was started in 2001, and was last updated in 2005.

A person with the CATE IBM Certification (Certified Advanced Technical Expert) has the advanced information and expert level understanding for CATE (Certified Advanced Technical Expert) certified professionals that can perform most of the tasks involved in the role with limited assistance from peers, product documentation and vendor support services, even in complex situations. This knowledge will include but will not be limited to in-depth analysis, AIX 5L concepts and troubleshooting of pSeries and AIX 5L systems.

IBM CATE Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites in the CATE certification. However, for the CATE certification you have to know all the basics of the certification. In addition, to do the CATE exams and you are recommended to do the IBM Training course. Alternatively you can do the CATE study guides or CATE practice exams from vendors like Testking.com.

IBM CATE Exams:
You need to do the IBM exam(s) required to earn CATE certification. These can be four exams:

The four exams are the IBM 000-222: pSeries Administration and Support for AIX 5L V5.3 exam, IBM 000-180: pSeries Enterprise Technical Support for AIX 5L V5.3, IBM 000-237: pSeries HACMP for AIX 5L, and the IBM 000-062: IBM System p5 Virtualization Technical Support AIX 5L V5.3 exam.

IBM CATE Recertification
The certification is now valid for only a few years, to recertify you must pass the current CATE exams.
